No it isn't. It's baby boomer employers' fault for inflating job requirements beyond all necessity.

When they were growing up, most employers didn't care what your major was, unless you were going into a highly specialized profession, such as engineering, medicine, law, etc. Obviously those people needed specialized degrees.

But for the vast majority of people who worked typical jobs, simply having a degree was usually fine. They didn't generally care about the major, just the fact you have demonstrated a certain level of education and competence, and you made a good impression in the interview.

Then they would train you in the specific job skills you would need. That's the funny little detail, grumpy old revisionists often leave out when they complain about kids these days making bad decisions.
