This is a very flawed comparisson. You are comparing 5k very easily absorbed calories (mcdonalds, due to high level of easy fats and carbs) vs 5k of very hard absorbed (meat with fat). The meat-diet would have a lot of excreted proteins beeing undigested. You can construct these kinds of hypothetical extremes, but if you measured your daily caloric use (basal rate) by CO2 chamber or similar, you could very easily lose weight by eating 200 less or gain weight by eating 200 more, it is pretty much that spot on.

Wether the labels on the food is correct or not, seems to vary though. We have an ongoing issue with that in Norway atm where a few of our popular food products having wrong info
