My kids only been taking legit lessons 5 months. Before that 1 year in band percussion. He tends to doubt himself but I think this is amazing…I also can’t drum.

I suggested it because, yeah it's easy but he needs to polish his technique a bit. Going backwards a bit with something a little simpler will help him tremendously. I had a nephew who was at this kids level about 25 years ago. Wanting to be able to play really fast and complicated stuff. I got him to warm up with what I mentioned in my comment. He learned control by playing something simple and he grew from there. Now he's a semi professional studio drummer in the suburbs of Chicago. Not a big name but he gets some good gigs. Radio commercial jingles mostly and he's in a local band as well. They do stuff in the area. They're not big time rock stars but it's what they are wanting to do. They have good paying jobs but they enjoy doing local music stuff too just for the fun of it.
