My middle daughter is almost 14, and her best friend who just turned 13 two months ago tried to kill herself last night.

I just want to clarify this is from my personal experience and again that I'm not an experienced parent, my kid is two yo.

Anyway, from my personal exp. Counseling often makes things worse, i've seen it in clients (lawyer here) and in family. Its worth noting that what im specifically against are psycologists. I'm all for paychiatrists. This again, from my exp.

From my point of view, psycologists tend to exhaust emotionally their clients in hopes of achieving a breakthrough with little or none real support. This also affects the family both money and emotionally wise.

Psychiatrists are great but also not my first response, since they do handle mental health issues, however it is recomended to address thw problem first with friends and family, since that is emotionally healthy, to learn to del with grief and also to not push into the problem a stranger who is going to attempt understanding the issue from outside which might be emotionally aggressive.

Also this kinda sends the message of being sick or wrong feeling they way thw person might be feeling.

So i'd recomend to try to address the issue before escalating it.

Finally also worth noting, because of what i've experienced in criminal and family law practice I do have a biased opinion torwards psycologists, so take it as it is, it might or might not be helpful, just an insight of what a fellow parent thinks.
