I think my mind represses how bad the depressive bouts were

Depression affects the way your brain functions, it's common for people to have less memory recall when thinking about a time they were depressed. My worst depressive episode was in my last year of college into the gap year I took to recover and try different medication. I have little to no memory of 2020-2021, early 2022 is also spotty but not as bad.

I had the same problems with memory during manic episodes, but only during the time I was manic. It felt like I had the memory span of a goldfish lol. I couldn't do long division for the life of me. Literally could spend hours on one problem and lose track of time because I didn't remember what I was doing, if I'd already done it, etc.
