My morning went from optimistic to livid with this biased BS from NY Times’ The Daily.

Bariatric surgery with no complications can result in permanent malnutrition and dehydration with devastating consequences. It increases the risk of alcoholism due to the way alcohol is absorbed and involves numerous permanent lifestyle changes that I don't think a 13 year old can fully grasp. Oh and many people that have it gain weight back so it's not even a "cure." And we don't know the long term effects of these drugs and I have a feeling 10 years from now we will have another phen-phen moment with people being permanently damaged. I'm horrified how this has been uncritically covered in the media, often with pharma-affiliated doctors and surgeons who stand to profit from this being quoted as experts.
