My mother called me after 9/10 years.

My dad got cancer while I was DF'd. He informed me and I visited him regularly in the hospital and at his home.

Everything was "normal" again after years of silence. Even the CO who was there in the hospital treated me normally and talked to me as if I wasn't DF'd.

When the cancer treatments began to work, my dad started shunning me again.

He refused the final treatment because it required blood transfusion, so the cancer came back a month later and he died.

At the funeral everyone shunned me, except one very old elder I will never forget, I told him I'm DF'd and he said these things don't matter now. He spoke to me in front of everyone about my dad and my youth.

The CO walked by and just looked me right in the eyes silently with an ice cold look.
