my mum is having a laparoscopy tomorrow

I just had my laparoscopic surgery last week. I was nauseated when I woke up, but I told the nurse and she added something to my IV and it went away. I was prescribed zofran and promethazine and took them as prescribed for a couple days and didn't have any more nausea.

My throat hurt from the intubation. I asked for something to wet my throat and she gave me some ice chips which helped. Eventually she gave me some gingerale which also helped.

The shoulder pain was pretty bad that afternoon. When they do the surgery, they put gas in the tummy to make it easier to see what they are doing. They can't get it all out, and the leftover gas needs to be reabsorbed into you. When you're sitting up or standing, the gas rises up to the diaphragm and puts pressure on it. We have nerves there, and when they get pinched it hurts like hell in our shoulders. I found relief by laying with my hips elevated with a pillow. Took 2 days before I could sit up comfortably. Doctor told me to walk around the house every few hours so I did, but it just hurt.

I didn't have a bowel movement for 3 days so I took Duralax stool softener and stopped taking my percocet after day 3 (it causes constapation). Took another day and a half before I pooped.

I was bleeded for about a week and wore Knix period panties and a loose dress. They are more comfortable than pads.
