Everything you said makes perfect sense. If its really the case that theyre having an overwhelming problem with situations like this, then the punishment was right, as long as they remain consistent in the future for similar situations. Its unfortunate that you got caught up in all this bullshit right in the midst of the proudest moment of your magic career. I recently saw an interview you did at some event I was watching on twitch (prob pro tour) and I heard you say you qed for the PT at a really young age (13?) and your parents wouldnt let you go and you somehow understood. I won a PTQ when i was 15 and qed for a PT in Japan, my parents wouldnt let me go, and my reaction was to quit magic because there wasnt any point if I couldnt travel where I needed to. The only reason I bring this up is because I just dont see how at that age you could do something that most adults never could, then not be able to attend, and somehow find yourself grinding local tournaments again a few weeks later pushing forward to a time that travel wouldnt be an issue. I guess that part of your interview opened my eyes to the fact that we had the same decision to make at some point, you made the harder choice, I took the easy way out. I was too embarrassed to rejoin the community after winning a slot and wasting it when someone else could have gone, I was afraid of the hazing I would have to deal with. In a sense Im inspired by you for that reason, and others. Im sure Im far from the only one that gets any inspiration from your story, or your career. Now that youre in the HOF, it seems even more important that you spend the time making sure you keep inspiring the people that want to see you do well, and not worry about the groups that are so caught up in their jealousy that theyve convinced each other that their behavior is normal or acceptable. As long as there are other people doing the same dumb shit theyre doing, theyll always assume its fine. Im sure you know most or all of this. I appreciate the message.
