It could have been a million reasons. Doctor's appointment and took a sick day. Maybe there was a COVID scare at school. Maybe school for some reason had a power outage or not water and sent everyone home. I don't know and I don't care. I didn't say he called out because of his girlfriend. I just said he wasn't home last night, came back after 9am when he's usually off at work, and since he's home today, he appears to have invited her over (I know this not only because I can hear the voices through my ceiling but because I saw her in the driveway while I was getting mail as she arrived.)

I'm not defensive of my behavior, but I am worried that complaints about noise will not be remedied. I've lost a lot of sleep over the past month due to the noise. I was really hoping getting the landlord involved would resolve that. If I sound "defensive", it's more so that I'm stressed that the late night noise levels will return again after cooling down for a week.
