My neighbors were the 4th of July idiots

I’m the one you replied to. I grew up in a place where firecrackers (and fireworks) are deeply ingrained in the local culture (look up Mascleta on Youtube). As a 12 yo I played with firecrackers that could cause serious body injuries or total a car if detonated in the wrong place. When I was 9 my teacher got too close to a Mascleta while he carried some firecrackers in the belly pocket of his hoodie and he was quite literally gutted (he survived, but missed the rest of the year). A kid at my school found a place where local manufacturer illegally dumped expired firecrackers, and of course, things went wrong and he ended up disfigured with deep burns over his whole body. I still played with firecrackers just blowing stuff up.

I think any serious firecracker should be banned and fireworks should be restricted to licensed professionals.
