My older boyfriend (M40) lied to me (F30) for years, but now I think he might be telling the truth. Am I wrong to believe him?

I am so emotionally invested and so close to this situation that I can no longer tell if he is lying.

No longer? You never could tell! The fact you're still hung up on him all this time demonstrates as much. Either that or you know he's lying and don't care, which is just as bad. There's no trust to be had, but you still choose to close your eyes to the bleeding obvious. You're so emotionally invested because you allow yourself to be. You exercise no good sense, you see no reason, you deny reality and somehow expect things to come out okay. At 30 now, you're no longer a child and haven't been for a long time. So it's time to stop playing the part.
