My options in extending a Visitor Record by 28 days. One week remaining until expiry.

First, don't worry so much about it. No one is going to come knocking on your door, and you won't be deported. You have a valid reason to go out of status (if you do), and people are regularly able to restore their status when it happens all the time. In general, going out of status is something that isn't an issue when it happens, but more of a potential issue if you try to return to Canada or make a new application in the future. But again, if it's something that can be explained it's generally less of a problem.

The fact that you are leaving in June complicates the situation insofar as what kinds of efforts you "should" be making to maintain your status. In other words, if you knew you were going to stay for another six months, you should absolutely apply for some kind of status. But since you are leaving only a few weeks after your status expires, many would be tempted to just not do anything.

If your passport doesn't arrive in time to extend, you have basically three options, all with their pros and cons:

  • apply to extend anyway, and withdraw after you leave the country.

  • wait and apply for a restoration, which also would be abandoned after you leave the country.

  • do nothing until you leave.
