My Peach has a lump :(

Sorry, I haven't figured out how people do the pics + text part of this yet - here was the text that I had written up but it didn't appear with the pic link:

Hi Rattit,

I just want to pick through the hive-mind for some thoughts. I noticed this morning while the rats were having their runaround time that Peach had a lump right under her left armpit. It doesn't seem to be bothering her at all, even when I've manipulated it a bit. I thought to myself that at some angles, it makes her look like she's got a boob, but then realized, that's pretty much exactly what it is.

I put a link to some pictures of earlier this year where I'm sure there was no lump (hard to tell sometimes from the angles taken), to more recent ones where it's a bit more evident.

From my reading, I'm inclined to think it's benign because it feels largely flabby with a little pea node inside, and it flops around a bit. It's just unsightly, and I'm worried about the "what if" possibilities. I also read that it's very common for female rats nearer 18 months or older. Except my Peachy is only 50 weeks -- She will be turning 1 in two weeks: June 3rd!

I called the vet to price out what a surgery might cost, and they were unwilling to even ballpark, saying that I would have to come in for a $90 consultation first before they would give me anything. Needless to say, I'm a little indignant about that.

So I'm wondering what I should do for now. I've given her some strawberry yogurt today and a whole blueberry for her to eat, and will be heading to the bulk store to find some flax and other healthy grain-type foods to make a mix for her.

What would you do? I have read many past threads where people say their ratties have been about 2 years old and have let the lumps stay, but this one is still a young'un.

Thoughts? Much appreciated.
