My plan for outfitting a condo with Cat 6 Ethernet

In response to u/carson_blocks I do agree that having the condo “retro-fitted” for ethernet isn’t much of an invest but I didn’t get the impression that’s what you’re going for. Personally if I was in your shoes, had the money, desire, and time I would do the same thing. As for a single family home, house for the foreseeable future will continue to built with a hardwired network - whether its ethernet now or fiber in the next 5+ years. So I completely disagree that people are moving away from hardwiring their homes. People are definitely trying to improve their wireless network, and the most effective way to do that is get as much as you can hardwired.

Yes Ubiquiti makes very good hardware but 5ghz is 5ghz and basically sucks when you put two walls and 15 feet between the source and client. Without knowing you’re hardware situation or plans, Ubiquiti’s ecosystem is pretty damn good, and their AP in-wall HD maybe something that fits your topology.

Ok, back to your OP. I think your plan is good. But since you’re paying someone to run the cable, definitely have 2-4 cables per drop. That will open you to HDMI thru ethernet if you wanted. The electrician is already running the cable, what’s another 2 or 3. (But you did say you’re doing two cables) Another thought could be having a drop in the ceiling for an AP.

Good luck!
