Look, there's reasonable shit to do. When my girlfriend and I are at shows we switch off who goes to the bathroom/gets drinks, and the other will hold our space with wide legs or a shirt on a chair/rail. That's reasonable. Not only are we together, but we are both in the venue, and one of us is temporarily gone.

And then there's what goes on in West Coast jam band shows where massive vortexes of tarps and fences of shirts hold entire rows and hundreds of square feet. I personally see people, every year at shows at BGCA, who hold entire rows for people who show up right at showtime, and aggressive tarps/sweatshirting.

Last night I was close to some small rows, and each row of five seats was held by three people who refused to let anyone in. That's fucked.

Two nights ago there was a massive tarp blocking off a chunk of page side rail with two people on it until showtime, when the 10x10 tarp had... Three people.

Three nights ago, two girls held four rows for an entire set until their late coming friends showed up for Set two. Something like 16 seats were off the market for two fucking people for an entire set.

So, I'm gonna be a dick right back to people who decide to initiate the dicking. Fuck people who need a vortex. If your friends aren't here, it's not your seat. You don't need 1.5 seats per person. You don't get to tarp off prime floor space for half as many people as can fit in the space.

Holding the floor while your girlfriend takes a piss? Justifiable and cool. Holding a row so your asshole friends with their fingers up on lot can join you when they finally find their miracle? Fuck your day.
