My raiding guild wants 3.000 gold per month from every raider to cover flask/food/etc costs - is this the norm or am I falling for a scam?

In my opinion it really depends on the guild itself. Is it a semi casual guild that is doing laid back raiding and is hoping to clear heroics, or is it a guild that is interested in going hard towards serious mythic progression?

If they're raiding somewhat seriously, and flasks/food/etc costs about 3k a month for one person (zero clue how much it costs nowadays) then I don't think this is a bad thing. Raiding is a big time commitment. If someone wants to do serious progression and they spend the time buying flasks and food and everything else they need, only to show up and see that a quarter of the raid is expecting people to give them all the flasks they need, that can be frustrating. It's hard to just say "bring flasks please!" and expect everyone to do it.

Raiding is a team effort and so often you'll have a small group of players doing 5x the work while everyone else gets the rewards. People log on for their raids, and because a couple of people spent hours getting gold and supplies, everyone gets all their flasks, and gold for repairs, and anything else they might need for raids without doing any work because other people spent time getting them.
