My sales rep is suffering from “mental health issues” and not doing his job

Wow, this post really puts it in perspective how misunderstood mental illness still is. Please don’t put “mental health issues” in quotations as if it’s something that isn’t real. He is sick. Mental health IS HEALTH.

If he’s historically been a good employee, you 100% need to back him up and support him or try to work with him to come up with accommodations that could help him perform the best he can until he is back on track health wise. Firing him for a medical condition out of his control could be truly traumatic.

Also, if he really is diagnosed and receiving treatment, he could probably sue you for disability discrimination if you fire him. We are all struggling financially. Please try to be compassionate and please educate yourself on mental health so you can better serve your workforce.
