My Shadowsun

Agreed.

I've tried hard in painting Tau to get that sort of creepy dry fish skin they show in the art. They're strange creatures from another planet and they're supposed to be, well, alien.

I guess to me what separates 40k from, say, Star Trek is that 40k is full on grotesque, the universe is a horrible place full of brutal things clinging to life by unnatural means. It's not a human fantasy about the ideal future, it's an apocalyptic universe. Chaos or a Hive Fleet could wipe out everything in a moment.

40k is the kind of universe where vengeful, moral entities are clamoring for the souls of the lost and T'au are a caste driven empire - Shadowsun as some frail pinup is just bizarre.
