Seems from this that your son means so much to you bc he is your wifes son. When reading fiction it is allways enjoyable when the writer nails perspectives and feelings. This clearly shows however, that you dont have kids, or that you are unable to convey feelings a parent have for his/her child in your writing. I would argue that the infinite love a parent feel for their child have nothing to do with the child beeing of the other parents blood, but instead because they are fantastic and inspiring humans with their own unique personality.

Not trying to shit on your story, just a comment to bring with you in your writing. Too many books with unrealistic portrays of feelings, dialogue etc, and that to me only says the writer doesnt know what he/she is talking about. To me, i have problems with reading things if i feel the writer has less insight in stuff than i do myself. Keep it up!
