My son thinks he’s buying a $20-$30k car for a first car…

Hi! It sounds like your son is a hard worker and a smart kid. Good job mom! I can understand how you are feeling being a single mom myself…My parents were toxic growing up as well so I get it. I think the best thing to do is look at this as a blessing. Your son gets a car that you do not have to pay for. In a way, it is kind of like a family car. If I read one of your comments correctly you don’t have a car due to no need and some difficulty driving. However, In the event of an emergency it will be nice to know your son has a car to get you guys where you need to go. Just a different way of looking at:) When it comes to the car/car insurance I would suggest perhaps looking into paying the full year and having that cost bundled into the “match” by your dad. There’s usually a discount for paying up front as well. When it comes to the car… I would just make sure your son factors potential repair/maintenance (tires, oil changes, etc) costs in when choosing the brand of vehicle. Blowing out an expensive tire usually isn’t covered by warranty and may be an afterthought. (I’m just speaking from my own experience having had to replace costly tires in the past) In the end, you are his mother and you know your family dynamic and you obviously love your son very much… Do what feels right to you! I wish you the best!
