My teacher says to stay away from StackOverflow and other online help, is this good advice?

Yeah, no... I never stated that beginners studying programming shouldn't refer to themselves as programmers; I specifically said that my opinion is that anyone who only invests the bare minimums in studying, and are just speedrunning through projects just to add to a portfolio to get a web developer job without being able to replicate it again without instructions, is VIEWED negatively by most individuals that don't want the title "programmer" being associated with said laziness.

Let me be very clear: Anyone that is at least interested (not necessarily have to be passionate) about programming, and invests their time to actually learn how to do it, is a programmer in my view. They could only know how to write "Hello World", and I would still consider them a programmer.
