It being damaged is the reason why it’s actively taking over V’s body(i genuinely appreciate you not using any gender to describe V as we know it’s our choice to pick our versions).

The Johnny engram is effectively V’s body now and with the extraction of V onto the relic they’ve switched roles, but this doesn’t mean things work the same way with the function of the relic. It was damaged within V’s body and triggered the takeover of Johnny integrating with the body but it doesn’t seem to be designed to do that. I feel under regular working conditions it needs an outside the body activation and with V being on the engram it can’t just resume the body like Johnny’s engram did. Like a human MAC address got blocked by design.
