My Thoughts on Trap Team

First, I'm new to this sub, but there seems to be more constructive criticism lately which I love. Just me?

Either way, well-edited and fun to watch! Thanks for sharing!

I disagree with your points... Kinda. I agree those are problems. I definitely don't think they're the worst aspects of the game and they're not what I would point out, and I think TT is notably worse than previous games in many kinds of aspects from game design to content, and I think it's the worst home-console game in the series.

I really think the Trap Master power bonus is unnessicary. It doesn't add anything exciting. I don't think they're overpowered because of it, but then again, whenever I play TT I only play Kaos Mode and the extra damage doesn't apply there. Still, I don't think any are broken without the bonus (which you don't get that often), and I think some villains are much more broken (seen Kaos or Luminous? They're crazy).

But really, I think the new power scaling as a whole is wacky. I don't like it in this game. Maybe I'm getting worse at these games, but I feel like a lot of the fights took too long. Especially the boss battles. Is it challenging to survive through them? Yep, but not fun, in my opinion. After so long fighting the same enemy/boss using the same attack patterns, I can't help but get a bit bored (don't get me started on the final boss). That certainly isn't helped by the fact that most battles take place on flat arenas, with rarely any enemies standing on platforms/objects you have to get around or can use to your advantage.

And yeah, the Traptanium Gate idea is dumb, and isn't even interesting from a story standpoint, because they don't add anything new to the lore and it's unexplained how they become Traptanium anyway. The Traps and Traptanium have other unexplained aspects, and I would be willing to suspend disbelief for most of them, but when it comes to lore this game is lacking.

Don't get me wrong, the main plot screnarios are fun and creative and could be really interesting, but there isn't enough depth to them. There aren't side-stories for anyone (except the horribly rushed Cali x Flynn thing), none of the villains are given a backstory (aside from the Doom Raiders, and their backstories don't even get mentioned ingame), a lot of the NPCs in the hub are there for no reason and a lot of the NPCs never reappear. I hate how Story Scrolls were replaced with more quips from Flynn, and stupidly, you can't even re-read them! The lacking lore is a huge disappointment to me, because TFB did some really great stuff with the lore in SA and Giants.

Anyway, I could ramble much more about my problems with this game, but I said pretty much everything relevant in the first couple of paragraphs.

Like I said, good video. I'm hopeful that the next game will be better, because I think Vicarious Visions are much better at game design and will offer more content.

I'm not sure if it'll have the same unlock restriction problems. I don't see how Acti could do anything even more stupid in that regard, and doing something just as bad seems too risky, but I think I'm underestimating them. /shrug
