My triple-vaxxed, 85-year-old mother caught COVID. Medical triage made her doctor useless.

We had an “exposure” in the office yesterday and I get a frantic call from admin asking if it’s okay to cancel in person appointments. This is progress as they’d literally been cancelling these without asking until I put up a prolonged stink and went to HR.

I asked if there was a liability concern, if we could call the patients, disclose the situation, and ask if they wanted to reschedule. You know, respecting patient autonomy, different risk tolerances, etc.

For reference I literally see COVID positive patients every day so there’s always an “exposure” but apparently spending an hour in a room wearing a non fit tested n95 doesn’t count as an exposure.

The whole system is ridiculous. We literally have one doc in charge of approving the monoclonal antibody use for millions of covered patients. As you can imagine, we don’t give many monoclonal antibodies.

Luckily, we recently got a supply from the State of one of the new limited supply treatments. Sadly, the State somehow accidentally shipped it to us and we weren’t supposed to get it and had to return to sender.

I can’t think of a system designed worse. This is what happens with excessive central planning
