My Trust is promoting young and inexperienced band 5s into band 6 and then band 7 positions.

There are 47,000 nurse vacancies in the UK. There simply isn't enough. So naturally those that are left would prefer to fill the higher positions.

Good people leaving for better careers. Jobs worth more pay or with less of the shit nursing has like make up shifts etc. Combine this with older and experienced people leaving, retiring or simply running out the clock to retirement. This is what we end up with. The quality of UK nursing is dying, and now I feel there is not enough experience left to teach the new and save it.

You pay peanuts, you get monkies I suppose. This has all been happening slowly for a decade or more.

But rather than blame the government, the failing system. Or simply ask why. As usual us nurses will blame each other.

"All the new guys want to be manager they don't want to work on the ward"

"They'll promote anyone these days"

Look through this thread and you'll see plenty of examples.

Maybe one day we will close ranks and stick together. Even if that day comes.. is it to late?
