My VA Loan fell through AMA

Hey. Here is my story. Its probably a typical one, but its mine. I'm married with 4 kids and one on the way due in November. Since I have been married we have moved 13 times in ten years. We are really hoping this is our last. Back in 2007 we purchased a home up in the pacific northwest of Washington. Pretty much the worst time in recent history as prices were at their peak. By 2010 my $180k house was worth $100k. I lost my job and we moved back to Utah. Even though I went from making $30+ per hour to $10 per hour, somehow we made it work and had our previous house rented out, hoping the value might come back eventually.

By 2012 we lost our renters and couldn't find anyone to rent to cover our mortgage. We had to stop paying the bank and couldn't get an approved price in time to do a shortsale and it foreclosed September 2013. Fast forward 2 years and we want to buy our last home as I found a new job that pays well.

As we start the loan process I contacted the VA for a Certificate of Eligibility to see if my short service in the National Guard would help us financially. It turns out my discharge was during procurement and I am ineligible, evening though they issued me a COE in 2014. The root of the problem is, I didn't find this out until 2 weeks before my closing date and now I need to switch to an FHA loan and find 5% down to be able to do it.

I don't want to pressure anyone as I'm sure there are more people in need than I am and I feel like my life is pretty great. I don't want a handout but maybe just a small boost. Well, $16k isn't really a small boost, its a big one. I appreciate anything you can give and I will do anything in my power to return the favor.

TL:DR; Typical American family with need of a financial boost.
