My weekend, for you.

FACEBOOK ENGINEERING AT BERKELEY (On Campus)

Estimated crowd: 80 people

Um, as someone in CS, I think a more accurate estimate might be about 100 to 150? Google/Facebook/etc. are the most popular companies and usually have pretty packed info sessions.

Also, if other people want a good idea of what I usually do for social activities on a typical week, this is me:

  • Spontaneous hangouts (or planned meals) with close friends 4-5 times a week. Sometimes we just go to each others' apartments and do homework/eat food/talk about life.
  • Random activity (usually either food or boba) with acquaintances or even strangers 2-3 times a week. 1-2 of these are with people I'm not as close with (e.g. acquaintances who plan it or whom I just run into at an event or on the street and decide to hang out for a bit with) or with people I just randomly decide to meet up with whom I barely know (through things like yikyak).
  • CS info sessions a few times a week - free dinner. I am also CS so I'll usually see various acquaintances/friends anyway. I learn about these through Facebook because they pop up everywhere.
  • Sometimes homework parties with friends in the class. Usually happens later on in the semester, and usually with my CS classes.
  • One of Berkeley's biggest strengths is food. I've made a bucket list of all the restaurants in Berkeley I want to try based on friends' suggestions and places I keep hearing about, so I've been trying to get my friends/acquaintances/coworkers to help me finish off this bucket list. For anyone who wants to try new things, I recommend doing the same.
  • Going to the gym can be a social activity. Started hitting the RSF with friends this summer.
  • Club meetings I count as social activities, and I usually have those about 3 times a week. It's more fun if you actively try to get to know people in the club meetings. Introduce yourself and start a conversation.
  • Once in a rare while: bar-hopping/clubbing in SF, frat parties, larger, more involved club events (e.g. formals/banquets/weekend-long events), field trips for class (thanks IB), etc.
