My wife and I when we were in active addiction, vs us in April 2017. We now both have over five years clean from drugs and alcohol and we have a 3 year old girl. Life has been challenging but compared to our old lives, we are quite literally living a dream!

This is a normal reaction from people who don't think addicts deserve praise for their actions because they are merely acting like adults for the first time in their lives. Although this is full of undue negativity I cannot dismiss their feelings as wrong - they are technically correct in their assessment. Although correct in the literal sense it is not socially correct to say that they are just acting normal. They are acting how you expect them to act but for them this feels anything like normal. By treating the addict in this way, the individual places the addict in a position to fail as they don't think they are being respected or acknowledged for the discomfort they are putting themselves through to act normal like you.
