Nancy thinks depression is a legal reason to fire someone. Nancy is wrong. Also fuck Nancy.

While I get what you’re saying, none of your comparisons work. A person with a disfigurement can reasonably have it seen, a person can reasonably have their national identity known at one point or another, a person with dea pression can NOT Have a reasonable expectation to bring up suicidal thoughts or actions in the workplace. There’s a MASSIVE difference in an anti-Semite or someone disgusted by disfigurement and someone being upset that suicide is being brought up in the workplace. For all we another coworker may well have made that complaint because they suffer from depression or suicidal thoughts and the talk about it in the workplace is making it difficult on them. You’re focusing on accommodations for OP when it could also be that someone else is asking to be accommodated by not dealing with that subject matter at work.

You’re confusing “I don’t like this person’s disability” and “this coworker is bringing up uncomfortable and unreasonable parts of their disability”. We don’t know what OP said but if they had been bringing up suicidal thoughts or discussing wanting to kill them selves then there’s a massive difference in what should be done. Again for all we know a coworker could’ve asked for the very reasonable accommodation of not wanting to bring a disturbing subject matter into the workplace and the work is following that, though extremely stupidly in how they implement it. If we use your examples it’s more like if a man with missing fingers is asked not to bring up the accident that he lost them in, his visible injury is reasonable but him describing any aspect of it isn’t.
