They didn't want one state dominate all other, and i agree with that attitude. They wanted balance of power on continent, basically none of 5 Great Powers (Britain, France, Austria, Prussia/Germany, Russia) to be strong enough to dominate all others. Its only after Germany tried to do that in ww1 and ww2 everyone turned against them. Since their rise in 18th century Britain wanted domination in colonies and free trade, they were never militaristic power in Europe, unlike French and Prussians/Germans. Britain was first and foremost naval power and never were warmonger in Europe. Usual warmongers were always French, Habsburg/Austria and Prussia.
