Nationwide Protests for George Floyd Megathread #3

Actually, I'm good. I guess that's kinda my point. Who I am wouldn't be possible in a tyranny. The large majority of people who feel oppressed haven't been making calculated steps towards building their lives/improvement. I say this from the perspective of someone who has technically been through three divorces. Is negativity harmful to building a life? Yes. Is it the fault of an invisible tyranny? No.

I'm a fourth year special education teacher. It's a really hard job but it's necessary. Lots of violence. My classroom can look like the riots sometimes on a much smaller scale. I understand the mindset behind it. My wife is a dietitian. We just moved into a duplex in April. I'll be finishing my masters this summer.

I'm a hockey coach. Literally won coach of the year last year. It's a lot of work. Three days a week, I'd go from my mini riot classroom straight to the hockey rink then home around 8:30. 2.5 hours in the car on these days. Weekends booked with games. All worth it though.

Just launched a small business with my wife and best friend (2 weeks ago). It's been pretty good. Can't keep up with the demand, which is a good problem to have. We sell meals made with only local farm ingredients.

I guess my point is that yes, it takes effort to build. I've spent many days in the last however many years absolutely drained with the effort it takes to do so. It would have probably been impossible if I had picked up any of the excuses I was allotted through a sub-optimal childhood. Chose to leave them on the ground and see what I could do with life.

So, I guess, obviously America isn't a tyranny but that isn't really the point of our discussion though. It's more about being upset with personal circumstances. Lots of people have sub-optimal circumstances. Don't let it define you though. Remind yourself that simply being born in America grants you the top .0001 life when considering world history. You really actually can build something in America, even if other people fucked up around you. One step at a time. Choice by choice, day by day.
