Ukrainian here(raised in America). I’m not a very anxiety-prone person, but seeing the cemetery in my father’s home village almost made me pass out...so many graves from the early thirties. It’s very real, and one of the worst genocides in modern history. That being said, it being less than common knowledge outside of Ukraine has nothing to do with Jewish people or with Holocaust remembrance. Information on the horrors of Stalinism was heavily suppressed by the USSR, and continues to be by Russia. In order to avoid paying reparations, Russia officially denies the Holodomor genocide.

On the point of Holocaust remembrance: I’m grateful that the Jewish people have fought so diligently to ensure this unforgivable part of history is not forgotten. The goal here is to ensure these horrors are not repeated. Especially now, when we are seeing a resurgence of Nazism and Communism in youth-culture fringes, people need to be made very aware of history.
