NBC: House Republicans are ready to end their Russia investigation

"We're not a criminal investigation," Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Fla., told NBC News. "If I honestly thought that there was fire somewhere we have an obligation constitutionally to look further into, I would have no problem doing that. But when you don't and you've got to the point where you're getting into the fifth and sixth level of people coming in here, then you're spinning your wheels."

Oh? That's your take on investigations, Rep. Rooney?

Then let's talk about Benghazi, because there's this:

VIDEO: Rooney plays key role in Benghazi hearing By Jeremy Wallace , Herald-Tribune / Wednesday, April 2, 2014 U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney played a key role Wednesday in quizzing a former top CIA official about why they U.S. military did not respond quicker to the attack in Benghazi, Libya in September 2012.

Rooney, a Republican who represents all of Charlotte County and party of Manatee, questioned former acting CIA director Michael Morell for about 8 minutes during a House Intelligence Committee meeting about why U.S. troops were not on the ground sooner to protect U.S. diplomats during an attack that claimed the lives of four Americans. Rooney made clear that he thinks politics played a role in the decision.

That's you, happily participating in a House hearing a full two years after the Benghazi series of investigations began (in September 2012).

At that stage - two years into the investigation - did you crow about how the committee was "spinning its wheels?" Or at any other time in the following 27 months, when it finally wrapped up in July 2016 with a final report with no criminal with no finding of serious wrongdoing?

Mr. Rooney, you're a partisan hack. Like your fellow members of the GOP, you are abusing your position to hide serious criminal activities that benefited your party.

I don't know what the outcome will be, but at least you've shown us your lack of character. Live with that.
