NCT U - BOSS (MV Teaser)

Okay so let's do some analysis.

First, the main beat. Pretty boring to say the least, definitely not as boundary breaking at first. It's a basic synth bass with not a lot of character on a pretty generic drum loop. HOWEVER. In typical NCT U fashion, lots of the drum percussion are used stylishly to keep it fresh as well as being aggressive right from the get go to not sound out of place when those snare/clap rolls come in hot for the prechorus.

That chorus is filled with a silky smooth hi-hat loop and top notch vocals. The vocals really make the character, because on top of the "oh oh oh oh" in the background that has heavy processing on it, the way the producer uses these vocals is literally how they would use an instrument.

Most common dubstep noises are called "growls" and they work by automating different parts of a wave in a bunch of different shapes. Think of it like playing a noise or sound and at the same time pulling and twisting it so it makes a plethora of different unique sounds in a very quick timeframe. Normally this is just done to instruments, but here it's done to their actual vocals. It's such a refreshing concept that I haven't heard before.

Similar to 7th sense, BOSS features choreography that is all about formation and presence. The first main bit we see is reminiscent of some of their 7th sense choreo, but much more aggressive. Here they're trotting forward while "swimming" outward; totally in your face. The move I'm referring to that's similar in 7th sense is a much more defensive move, being used while backing away and as a way to travel. Next they all snap to one side and then the next, changing altitudes with each succession, and then go into a downward move that looks like it's prepping for something really flashy.

All in all I think this is a great move forward to 7th Sense and I can't wait to see what they do with all of the awesome energy they have in this choreography and music.
