Nearly 70% of Americans want the United States to take “aggressive” action to combat climate change, but only 34% would support an extra tax of $100 a year to help, and only 33% said they’d be willing to trade their car in for an electric vehicle.

Cars are necessity for a huge part of the population and it's understandable why someone with limited resources would want to sit on the fence

Also the fact that my car is paid off an less than 6 years old and only ~75K miles on it, unless they can somehow implement a program that will give me an EV for free and pay for a charging station at my house then I don't have any incentive to switch EV. If you want something like EV to take off it needs to be adopted by government agencies first. If the state of California converts their fleet of vehicles to EV you just created a shit ton of demand and the private sector will take care of the charging infrastructure.
