Nearly 70% of Americans want the United States to take “aggressive” action to combat climate change, but only 34% would support an extra tax of $100 a year to help, and only 33% said they’d be willing to trade their car in for an electric vehicle.

Well it's not "would you trade your car in and then pay 30k more for a new car to save the world."

It's if you'd take an EV over what you have.

I find that people's arguments as to why they won't are steeped in ignorance of the product though. People only ever going back and forth to work 10 mile commute are saying things like 250 mile range is too small, when their tank doesn't really give more, and they never have a full tank sitting in the driveway either..

The vast majority of people can use an EV as they are now, they would pay less in "gas" and they would always have a filled car.

Even at 35k for a new car, taking into account gas prices makes it cost as much or less than the average cost of brand new cars.

People like me who paid 4k for a used truck and will probably be going used for my dream vehicles, it's not worth it NOW, as the used market isn't anything alike yet, and options for pickups don't exist yet. The guy paying under 1k for their used bester to get back and forth from work, no, the cost difference makes no sense.

But the issue isn't that, it's that people legit don't think it would work for them. The VAST majority of people don't go very far in their vehicles though, and always having a full tank, at a percent of the cost, would go along way.

This will all change. People still think SSDs are weak and prone to failing because they're used, which hasn't been the case since gen 1. EVs will get their names cleared quickly as they expand and more people given it a try, and the secondary market will follow.
