Need advice on how to deal with getting fired from my first post-graduate school job after 5 months

I got fired from a temp-to-hire gig 4 months in. It just wasn't the best fit for me, I was inexperienced, and I couldn't perform the way they wanted with the internal culture they had going. It wasn't that I was really that awful or they were terrible to work with....I just didn't mesh, made a few too many mistakes and they had the luxury of being a sought after employer, so they could be picky.

I still keep it on my resume!

Sure, you have to explain that you were terminated, but its still experience, and you can use it to your advantage to show how you handle failure and what you learned from the experience.

I have yet to be passed up for a job once they found that I was terminated. It happens. Getting fired for theft, hostility, or unreliability or something is one thing. But termination for performance issues can absolutely be used as a learning tool. Don't be ashamed of it.

Good luck with everything. I hope you find something quickly that you really enjoy and makes you feel better about going to work each morning.
