With this letter, I would like to express my interest in attending the UNCITRAL Working Group as a delegate.I am currently undergoing my third year of study towards Law at Ufuk University as a third year in the city of Ankara, Turkey.
Having looked through the materials of ELSA, I was delighted to find the opportunity to attend the UNCITRAL Working Group on Arbitration and Conciliation. I have decided to apply for this delegation because I am confident that it would strongly enrich my future studies and help me in my professional career. Moreover I consider this delegation as a great opportunity to get in contact with professional diplomats, allowing me to broaden my professional network. Furthermore, I have chosen to apply for the aforementioned UNCITRAL Working Group because I hold the utmost interest for arbitration and conciliation. I especially appreciate the opportunity to work with experts in this area.
It is as fact that international trade is becoming increasingly crucial and broadened due to the swift globalization of the world. Turkey’s harmonization process with the EU has given rise to Turkey’s formation of regulations on international trade and arbitration. Therefore many disputes in Turkey are have been quelled by the International Commercial Arbitration Court. Sadly, there is a shortage of professionals in legal profession that specialize on arbitration in Turkey as it is a new practice that began here in 2015; I believe that pursuing arbitration and conciliation will put me in a privileged place among my peers.
The third main reason why I have chosen UNCITRAL is that I have sufficient knowledge about arbitration and conciliation studies within Turkey; by means of the UNCITRAL Working Group on Arbitration and Conciliation, I will be afforded the opportunity to learn arbitration studies within Europe and the United States as well as become a part of it.
From my three years of study at Ufuk University in addition to a two months in an internship at a law firm I developed a desire specialize in arbitration and conciliation. ELSA provides me with an opportunity to gain exposure to these subjects through this UNCITRAL delegation During my previous year of study at Ufuk University I have attended several courses and seminars about arbitration held by both Bilkent University and ISTAC; since then, I have developed a passion for this subject and desire to continue my involvement with it.
I would like to be a delegate because this would provide me with the opportunity to deepen my law knowledge of law on an international level and in an international setting. I firmly believe that due to my deep interest in this subject, I have high motivation to work hard and represent ELSA employing the experience and knowledge that I have acquired thus far.
