Need help picking an MOS/prolonging the enlistment process

Former 350F here… Not bad advice, but I’d add that you’ll need 7-8 years experience, minimum, before qualifying for Warrant in any technical MOS. Exception to this is dropping a flight packet for 153A.

Seeing some of OPs posts talking about Infantry, wanting to experience cool stuff, being a pipe hitter… here’s my $.02 after 13 years active, med retired, now Army Civilian… choose an MOS with as much technical (read: non-cool) training as possible. Understand that even cool shit requires mundane classroom time - you need to learn the science behind your job before applying the art, every MOS has this to some degree.

My advice given the options you listed? Go 35P with Airborne. Language school is work, but absolutely achievable. Once through AIT and Airborne school, there’s a good chance you’ll be assigned to an SF Group working on a SOT-A Team (SIGINT Collect). Is it possible you end up in 82d or 173rd and stuck in some MI Company? Sure, but this is the Army. Opportunity is everywhere if you’ve got a good attitude and remain flexible. Also likely 75th Ranger Regiment recruits at 35P AIT, good if you’re fit and want to drink that kool-aid.

35P is a solid pick between rucking up, working direct with an ODA and getting technical, marketable experience for life after. Hang around long enough and you’ll get opportunities to join some seriously elite organizations, but you won’t know that at the time and they won’t out-right tell you.
