Need Help with a Character Concept (Blood Knight Cleric)

These are some good thoughts, and I thought a bit more about the theology a bit more after I made this post. I'll reply here, but will slip this into the main post as well. This is just an example of a Theological discussion with the character.

"So... I don't understand. The god you worship, he's all about conquest and victory or something?"

"Conquest is a result of battle, and is one of a million reasons that may drive one to fight. The reason is never the source of conflict. Conflict is the source of The Reason."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"The simplest tenet of our faith is that 'life is battle'. We all fight, in one way or another. Some men fight against other men they see as evil. Other men fight to defend what parts of the world they see as their own. Some men fight against their own nature, and wage wars that would end worlds inside their own head. Would you ever look at a man who has taken his own life and say he has never been at war? Ah, apologies, I am ahead of myself."

"So if that's the case, why do you join every single bar fight we see? Why do you enter all these tournaments?"

"It is prayer. Exploration. Physical Combat shows us who we really are. It tells us if we are the kind of person who would attack another in the eyes, or the groin, where some men say is unfair or impure. It tells us if we hold ourselves with glory. It tells us if we would be that that fights with cunning, accuracy. It defines us to our core, and you would never know these things without combat."

"What if someone chooses not to fight?"

"Life is battle. We are all warriors."

"No I mean... ok. Like if you challenged someone, and they declined... not that I've seen anyone do it. You really have a way with people, y'know. But what if someone did."

"Then they have blasphemed my god, and refused his blessing of knowledge. They are heathens - godless, foolish men who know nothing of themselves."

"... so I guess that answers my next question."

"What would that be?"

"Would you kill that person?"

"To do so would be an abomination. None earns death by my gods hand without the cleansing experience that is war. It would taint my very soul to strike down those who would not strike against me, as much as their milk-blood would anger me."

"... You're a real weird guy, you know that?"
