Need some advice for quitting kratom. I have an idea on how to do it, but I would like to know if what I'm willing to do is just going to end up in another relapse... Or worse.. Another substance addiction.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you discover the source of your depression. Your life sounds as though there is much to enjoy. What a privilege to be part of an archaeology dig. Good luck in your new job. Oh, and as far as tips for "going through it". Lots of water, protein drinks (one that is proud of their amino acid content), and pretty high dose B and C vitamins (The specs on Designer Whey (I'm pretty sure Publix carries it if you have access to one) are really good and it has B vitamins but a supplement of fairly high dose B vitamins is still good). B vitamins are vital to the extreme mental activity involved in cessation from an addiction, and of course so are amino acids. The levels of these having to do with the cause of much addiction in the first place.

For depression maybe some time in the future you could look into Tryptophan (or 5-htp since one form works for some while the other form works for others). Tryptophan (and other amino acids) tend to have quite the apparent effect in a very short time. I mean hours. If TRYPTOPHAN (or 5htp) helps then consider that boosting serotonin activity elevates your mood. If it causes anxiety then various antidepressants that boost serotonin likely wouldn't help either, and maybe you should look into things that you partake in that might boost these levels since this could be causing some anxiety and depression. If TYROSINE helps then more dopamine activity might be what you need, if it causes anxiety then avoid things that boost dopamine to elevated and unbalanced levels. In fact I believe the reason Wellbutrin works for smoking cessation (and it does I can attest) is its effect on dopamine activity which is intimately related to addiction and the psychology of withdrawal. If DMAE causes some anxiety then likely excess acetylcholine activity is the culprit and a benadryl, an anticholinergic, might help. If benadryl or other sleep aids cause anxiety then it's the opposite and a boost in choline, such as with DMAE or other boosts might help with your mood a great deal. (If DMAE doesn't cause anxiety but it doesn't have any effect at all, consider trying it out for a few weeks. Like St. John's Wort some people are transformed after a couple or a few weeks. They achieve a state of zero depression, which at first and I am speaking from experience, is something of a euphoric state. Others achieve enough relief that makes it significant enough to keep taking it. Some don't get anything from it. St. John's Wort is another one that if it causes anxiety discontinue but if not try it out for a time. Hell, some people take high doses of the flush type Niacin and they are cured of depression and insomnia that they suffered for years only within about 4 days. In me though it caused some mania although some people said they too experienced this until about day 4.
