need some words of encouragement

in EMS we have alot of different EMTs and Paramedics, you seem to have an issue with the "4 plus years of experience, fuck the patient, fuck this shift, lets get this call over with in a manner that we dont get sued in and get clear/available so we can go back to the part where we sit around waiting for another call" EMT. and the " 8 plus year of experience, forgot i was ever an EMT in your shoes, are you really volunteering to be here while im being paid 20 an hour and i cant wait for this shift to end, iv been in EMS for like ever so im your god" paramedics. well take it from a "wacker" EMT, as you climb the ranks you gain more responsibility, and with more responsibility comes more ways for you to not do things how your crew chief likes it. its a high stress job and with that, people will misdirect there emotions ALOT in this field. and you will watch people take it out on other crew members, PTs and there family, and even the guy that works at 711/wawa's. just remember that we all start somewhere and you are a newbie until you have 3 years under your belt. my issue with medics are that every time its an ALS call they just look at me and basically ask to be canceled.

other then that, today i was suspended from my volunteer squad for a month because i have an issue with allowing supervisors to talk to me like im privet Pile from full metal jacket. all that board member shit gets to there head and they think they can go on there power trip with me because im underrank. the shit of it is that i go out of my way to even be the squads CPR instructor and have had the most volunteer hours for a while running, and this is the thanks i get. and it always starts over petty shit, but they forget that their uniforms dont make them drill sergeants. w/e im gunna handle it maybe not in the way i want to but ill have to just bite the bullet. dont forget to stick up for yer self! but dont get too ballsy like me either.

case in point yeah we are volunteers everyone SHOULD consider that before being dicks. yeah sticks are hard and even the 10 plus years guys can miss what i see as an easy stick. yeah other people you work with suck because its easier to make you look bad then to make themselves look good. and yeah people will talk down to you but its either because they have been in your shoes for too long and they are dishing out to everyone else now or they just like to play drill sergeant. this part of being an EMT ends, and as much as you hate it, its the best part of your EMS career because you still have that superhero mindset.

how to cope with EMS drama - alcohol off duty, kiss ass ("chief i picked up a pack of smokes for you while i was grabbing coffee"), pretend like you are happy that they are giving you such useful advice and then continue about your job and when it gets out of hand, submit an incident report, get pandora on your phone and listen to random stand up comedians, or preoccupy yourself with /r/tittydrop. good luck.
