Negativity? Why?

On a whole season level, after reflection etc; sure, it's another good finish and an improvement on last season.

Having gone through an experienced the whole season though, game to game, developments, injuries and everything - it could have been so much more. Especially that Feb - March bad spell and the games in the last few weeks. We could/should have racked up at least 5 more wins or 3 more wins and 2 draws in that time I reckon. Games like West Ham, Swansea, West Brom, Sunderland, Leicester should all have been at least the next result better (loss should have been draw, draw should have been win) and Tottenham should definitely have been a win when you watched the game.

The performances being put in now don't inspire confidence. Yes the team is in a good position in the table, but everything else from the earlier parts of the season suggest it should have ended better. I'd still be happy with 6th if we managed to scrape a win and Tottenham didn't, but we're not doing ourselves any favours. The other teams above us (Tottenham, Liverpool, United) might well feel the same, but we were on course for our best season ever (and technically have done that) and it is just such a sour end to what could have been amazing.

On top of that the way we are playing now, we look like a bottom half team struggling through match after match. We haven't looked the stronger team, which we had done so for most of our games this season even when ending up losing. Before it was lack of cutting edge, but now it's lack of anything. No passion, no desire, no good movement or plays or passes.

Our second goal against Tottenham was about the only time since January (if not December) I remember us scoring a goal that didn't directly require a defensive mistake of some variety. It was just good, quick, attacking play. Mané carried it across, played it out to Long, he got a pin point cross in, met by a great header from Pelle. There were no glaring defensive errors or anything, just out-playing the opponent. And I barely remember that happening other than against anyone until back in January or earlier (Newcastle was a tough match but I think we won there on merit, Arsenal and United needed defensive errors but we still battled hard, before that it would be Everton when we last looked like a decent team).
