Nestle Continues Stealing World's Water During Drought : Indybay

Yea, that's a great idea. Lets move all the people out of California! That's definitely the solution that's the best and most efficient.

No, it's not the farmer's fault that they choose to grow certain crops, they have a god-given right to do whatever the fuck they want! Like, I don't know, grow fucking rice and then export it to Japan. That's awesome! That's capitalism! Oh yea, also lets allow people not in California to dictate what the fuck happens in California. That's another great idea. Because all these people who want to put almonds in the mouths know what's best. We should judge whether an action is good by how many mouths we can stuff with fucking almonds!

But it's all good, because you grew up on an almond farm! And you have almond growing friends! They're definitely looking out for the best interests of the fucking ecosystem on which they rely. They certain will hesitate to run it into the ground in order to make money now. They won't bitch and moan when the water literally runs out and their investment literally dries up. They won't turn to the government to bail them out of the shithole they dug for themselves when they decided to plant fucking almonds in the middle of the fucking desert, in the middle of a fucking drought.

So yes, lets blame the "massive population" which uses 14% of the water for all of California's problems! Lets point fingers at everyone other than the people growing cash crops and literally exporting water out of California. Because the world will absolutely fucking collapse if people in Minnesota can't stuff their face with almonds every fucking day.

I'm sure everyone will be very happy with all those almonds they have stored up when everything starts drying up around them, when other fresh groceries become insurmountably expensive, when they can only flush their toilet once a day, when a bottle of water costs 5$, when they have to choose between running the washer or taking a shower. And even your almond farmers will raise their arms to the heavens and say "Oh dear lord, thank god I had a chance to grow all of those almonds! I feel so accomplished having stuffed the mouths of people all over the world with these delicious nuts! I have to shit outside and my trees are dying because all the aquifers and all the canals are bone dry, but what a thing I've accomplished! I mean, how could anyone in their right mind have passed up that price per tonne!"

So no, you're absolutely not insane for suggesting that it's the population that's the problem. I'm being completely facetious, but I think you get my fucking point.
