Never before seen 9/11 photo, discovered in a photo book I received from a late relative. The photos have never been digitized nor seen by anyone other than her — until now.

Gosh this is so sad but I have a similar story.

I was in 3rd grade and I woke up, I went to school just like any other day, but caught a glimpse of what my mom was watching on the news on my way to school (I was in PST). My teacher was late to class and there was only a few of us standing in front of the door. Another classmate thought it was a holiday which would explain why nobody showed up to school. The teacher eventually showed up in tears and tried to start the class.

She gave us a simple coloring book exercise and told us to pair up with a group. I was wondering why we would even need to pair up with another person to color an outline, but then she explained to us the events that happened in New York. It didn't make sense to me as a 9 year old kid.

While we were figuring out if flowers should be colored red, yellow, or pink, my teacher was calling her son who was in the army reserves. Our school went into lockdown when another plane flew into the pentagon and the widespeaker intercom explained that it was a precaution for another plane crashing into the school.

I can't remember what we did next, but I remember being scared. I would say that was the time when I first learned people could act maliciously, enough to kill people at random. School ended early, and I went home to my mom who explained the further gravity of the situation.
