Never forget The Battle of Los Angeles February 25, 1942

I'm with you here. The battle of LA has always been one of the more fishy things to happen involving possible UFOs/UAPs. They unloaded so much munitions that anything above, that's manmade, would be destroyed in seconds.

War nerves? Why did the firing go so long then? Why wasn't it called off quickly if it was just nerves?

Weather balloon? Yeah right, gtfo. They know where weather balloons are and a weather balloon wouldn't cause so much panic that they'd fire that much on it.

Imo, they knew something much greater was up there. That's why they freaked out and unloaded everything they had at it. They were probably worried about some Independence Day type scenario (as much as they could imagine at least at the time) and wanted to protect the city. Upon realizing it wasn't doing shit, they claim the weather balloon and war nerves story.

Just like in Nevada. Several on site sources talk about a craft that had bendable metal that can form back to it's original shape. Saw the dead bodies. News even says they found a craft until it was retracted for a weather balloon story.
