New bill would forgive medical school debt for COVID-19 health workers

They didn't sign up for the lack of PPE and such. There should be reasonable provisions made to do their jobs without significant harm to themselves. However, many on the frontlines are without those provisions, which risks their health and their loved ones health. I guess its either hazard pay that private healthcare systems need to pay and many can't/won't, or it's the government intervening.. I'm not sure if they cant interject and add money to their paychecks, so the bill proposed to eliminate loans.

I would say for young physicians (residents) who work 3-7 years with a salary ranging from 55k-75k per year, working 80-90+ hrs a week with a loan from 200k-400k. They, along with other healthcare professionals are on the frontline, I think residents especially deserve this loan forgiveness because they are likely the ones working the most without hazard pay and significant risk. Reducing their loans makes sense to me, but fully doing away with them would be huge. I'm not confident that this will pass if there isn't a cap for how much will be forgiven.
