New coronavirus can cause infections with no symptoms and sicken otherwise healthy people: “the picture these two manuscripts paint is of a disease with a 3-6 day incubation period and insidious onset.”

What is the appropriate response to this information? I don’t want to panic but I also wonder if reducing potential exposure is reasonable. I live in the US, there is a confirmed case in my state, that one case has been handled appropriately. But I take my kids to the gym almost daily and my gym is a diverse place where I frequently hear from others about international travel. Should I try to go without my kids for a while in order to reduce their exposure to germs in the daycare? Or is that a heavy handed response?

I am seeing so much that worries me about this disease, and the idea that an a symptomatic person could spread the disease frightens me. I feel like the Chinese government is responding to this as if it’s much worse than their reported numbers warrant. Their response is good, but I worry that it’s too late and more people have carried it abroad but haven’t actually gotten sick yet. So what is the right response?
