New death system summary [still on process by Mod Hunter] (Credits to OhBananaJoe for finding this)

Oh hey, my thread's the one he's talking about. Neat.

I feel like too many people in the comments here are overlooking the fact that we naturally keep 3 items on death, and it can be easily boosted to 4 or 5. I see comments asking about losing seismic wand, but honestly, in what scenario will a seismic wand not make it into your top 3/4/5 items to be kept? Think of your typical bossing load outs and then remove the 5 most valuable items. Are they still too expensive for you to reclaim? Plus these costs are just a placeholder for now that are far from being finalized.

It seems like people don't want any punishment for dying. I've even had people say that the "humiliation" of the death should be punishment enough. No. Death needs to be bad enough that you'll want to avoid it at all costs. Don't try to squeeze out one more kill if your supplies are running too low. Don't take unnecessary risks just to get a little more damage in and shave a few seconds off the kill. If you still find yourself dying too much, fight the boss in the upcoming boss practice mode until you get better. It will also be a great way to first learn the boss without any risk.

I've seen so many people saying that this system is too expensive or too punishing, but none of them have offered any suitable alternatives. Most of them don't even realize that this system isn't that expensive when they consider that they don't have to pay for 3/4/5 of their items. If you're going to complain about this, at least tell the truth and say you just don't want to be punished for dying.

The most popular alternative I've seen is that people want the current system with graves to stay, and only have the item reclaiming fee take place if your grave collapses before you loot it. While this makes disconnections less punishing, it does nothing to punish people that die because of their own mistakes.

If you don't like it, stop dying. Practice the boss and change your strategy around. These costs will only reach extreme levels if you're dying so much that you really have no business bossing in the first place.
